I was recently contacted by Fix.com’s lifestyle blog about a post on ways to mix up your pasta night and thought it would be something you all would be interested in! I’m always looking for new ways to spice up my usual faves so I thought this would be a great way to start. Marinara sauce is a favorite among the pasta sauce family. The quality of the sauce relies heavily on the quality of the canned tomato you use. San Marzano plum tomatoes are a known favorite among culinary experts. If you are looking for a way to spruce it up and add nutritional value it is easy to add vegetables such as eggplant or spinach.

Alfredo sauce generally goes hand and hand with fettuccine. Add chicken or vegetables to this rich creamy sauce for an added source of nutrition and flavor. If you are looking for a twist on the classic or you are vegan, try cooking the sauce with onion, vegetable broth, cashew nuts, and garlic.

Pesto is a summer time favorite due to the taste of herb and refreshing basil. Pesto is one of the simplest sauces to prepare. For a twist (or if you don’t like basil) make “red” pesto, made with sun-dried tomatoes.
